Overview of AFM Operation

This section provides a comprehensive overview of the steps required to capture image data using the Dimension Icon. Additional information is provided elsewhere in the User Manual with procedures specific for each of the various Imaging Modes.

In general, AFM operation is divided into several sequential procedures:

1. Select Experiment
2. Prepare and Load the Probe Holder
3. Install the Probe Holder on the SPM Scanner
4. Identify the Probe
5. Align the Laser
6. Adjust the Photodetector
7. Locate the Tip
8. Focus on the Sample Surface

When working in TappingMode, the next step at this point is to Tune the Cantilever

9. Check Initial Scan Parameters
10. Engage, Scan, & Withdraw
